Container stuffing, planned before the box arrives

Container stuffing is the part of export container loading that decides whether a booking pays off. The container is a fixed volume with a fixed payload; everything else — which cartons go in first, which pallets stand on which, where the heavy crates sit — is a plan, and most of that plan is still made on the loading bay with a tape measure and a forklift driver's judgement. ContainerMath moves it off the bay and onto a screen, where it can be checked before anything is booked.

You start from the dispatch list: dimensions, weights and quantities for each line, pasted in or imported. Choose the container or trailer, and the packing engine arranges the cargo in three dimensions — respecting stacking limits, orientation rules and the payload on the plate — and returns how many units fit, how many containers the consignment needs, and how full each one runs by volume and by weight. That last pair matters more than it looks: dense cargo reaches the weight limit with the box half empty, and light cargo fills the cube with payload to spare. Knowing which limit binds is how you decide whether to re-pack, re-book or split the load.

The plan is then handed to the people who stuff the container. A printable loading chart gives the crew the stacking order, a 2D cross-section of each layer and the centre of gravity, so the load goes in the way it was planned and stays balanced when the doors close. For road legs, per-axle weights are checked against the legal limits before the trailer leaves the yard — and when a layout sits over an axle limit, the planner looks for a legal re-stow rather than only raising a warning. Export container loading adds paperwork to the stuffing. Because the plan already carries every line item, its quantities and weights can feed the packing list and commercial invoice directly through export documents, so what the documents declare is what was actually loaded.
